Billabong Pro Tahiti - Day 3
It was a little slow this morning when we arrived into the lineup at Teahupoo on day four of the waiting period. With the forecast looking the way it has though the call was made to run all of round two of the 2016 Billabong Pro Tahiti.
Sure enough though, once the first horn of the day blew sets started coming in and surfers started performing. One of the biggest heats of the day was a friend vs. friend/ teammate vs. teammate battle between Joel Parkinson and Jack Freestone. The two are staying with each other on the point and an hour before their heat they flipped a bar of wax to see who would get priority. Parko the veteran won and ended up ousting Freestone in a fairly entertaining heat.
One of the best heats of the day came at the end with Dusty Payne and Conner Coffin going wave for wave up until the very end. Dusty squeaked it out at the end with a long barrel and moved on to round 3.
That was it for Day 3 of competition and we’ll be looking for bigger waves and better conditions as we move in to rounds 3 and 4 tomorrow.
Joel and Jack flipping a bar of wax for priority before their heat yesterday. Joel took the win in the wax flip and ultimately took the win in the heat.
Joel waxing his board. Joel's moved on to Round 3 after his heat with fellow Billabong team rider Jack Freestone.
Two legends in one shot. Occy sitting down for a conversation with the champ Kelly Slater for a future episode of Occ-Cast.
