Kelly Extends His Lead by Winning the Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay
Eight times ASP World Champion Kelly Slater remains World No.1 and extends his lead in the ratings after winning the 2008 Billabong Pro in Supertubes, Jeffreys Bay, South Africa today. Slater remains the only ‘Top 45’ surfer to win an ASP World Tour event in 2008 to date with this win making it four of five, the event he didn’t win was won by a wildcard, and taking his ASP World Tour career wins to 38. As he continues to create history Slater has a massive lead on the tour ratings, now sitting at 5210 points, a ninth world title is getting closer and closer.
The final was an all World Champion affair, 8 X World Champion Kelly Slater VS current World Champion Mick Fanning (Aus). Slater now heads into the next event with US$30000 added to his bank account and the confidence that he remains unstoppable.
The Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay is the fifth stop on the ASP World Tour and includes the world’s top 45 full-time touring male professional surfers plus three wildcards. The event has a ten day waiting period but requires only four full days of competition to be completed.
