DIY Ombré Beach Blanket
Learn how to make an ombré dyed beach blanket with this easy, do it yourself project.
Barbados. A watercolor dream we just happened to live in. Literally, everything was painted ombré shades of blue – the sky, the water, our bikinis, you name it!Hence why we got home and immediately made attempts to re-create this natural magic with something we can bring with us anywhere. Yep, you guessed it, the ever-versatile, always packable - ombré beach blanket. So here’s a few things you need for this fairly mess-free how-to -
Start by filling the buckets about halfway full with water and then add the dye until you’ve reach the desired shade of blue. It’s best to start with the darkest and mix. Gently pour the next two and try for a lighter more graduated look.
Fold your fabric so it’s easy to dip into the buckets. We folded ours 3 times. Starting with the lightest color, dip the fabric into the water dye about halfway, or more if preferred. Let soak. Remove and check the color and soak again until you get the desired shade of blue. Don’t overthink this, you can always double dip!
For the middle shade of blue, decide where you want your first graduated line to begin. Dip the fabric only partially in, to that line. Let this blue soak longer to achieve a darker shade. Yours should start looking something like this…
Repeat the last step for the darkest shade of blue bucket. You will probably need to soak this one slightly longer.
Let dry on the sand, wash and dry later as needed.…and just like that you have a Barbados inspired beach blanket.
