Sivana Lima Moves into Fourth Place in the ASP World Rankings
Billabong Girl’s Silvana Lima moved up one place into fourth position on the ASP World Tour ratings after placing second in the final of the Mancora Classic at Lobitos, Macora, Peru today. This morning event organizers moved the event to Lobitos after the main site of Mancora was not suitable for the final day of competition. Silvanas day started with a win over Karina Petroni in the Quarter Finals and went on to take another win in her Semifinal against Rebecca Woods. After a Round 1 loss yesterday Silvana had been winning all her heats but it took current ASP World Champion Stephanie Gilmore to stop her. With U$7,000 in her pocket she heads to Hawaii for the final two events of the year before the 2008 ASP World Champion is decided.
Event No. 6 of 8 on the 2008 ASP Women’s World Tour, the Movistar Classic Mancora Peru is expecting a full day of competition as event organizers and competitors take advantage of the swell on offer. The Movistar Classic Mancora Peru pres. by Rip Curl is a crucial stop in the hunt for the ASP Women’s World Title. Peruvian Sofia Mulanovich, former ASP Women’s World Champion, is the new frontrunner on this year’s ASP Women’s World Tour following a solid result at the last event in Sydney. Stephanie Gilmore from Australia (the reigning ASP Women’s World Champion and defending event champion) follows closely behind Mulanovich and will look to make ground here in Mancora.
