San Diego

As the daughter of a lifeguard, Emi Koch was introduced to the ocean at an early age. Her dad pushed her into her first wave when she was two years old. All she wanted to be was a professional surfer.

    San Diego
    Astrological sign
    Favorite spot
Left peeler just beyond a fishing village in the Sputh of India
    Coolest place you've ever been
A small village along the Nepal-Tibet border in the foothills of the Himalayas with the second highest bungee jump in the world.
    Perfect day
Wake up before sunrise next to someone... Coffee. Cinnamon. Banana. Greek yogurt. Head to the beach for a surf and watch the sunrise over the water. Surf with friends. Head to a safe space (be it a community centre or school or the beach) to fuel empowered individuals utilizing tools for self-expressions such as art, photography, film, or wave-riding. More surf. Elephants. Papayas. Almonds. Almond butter. Bungee jump. Maybe head to a protest or start a ruckus? Swim with dolphins, whales, or sea lions. Bouncy jump. Trampoline. Evening trek. More art. A good long coffee catch-up session with friends. Wine and cheese picnic at a park / harbor. Movie on a projector. Banjo. Dance. Sleep under shooting stars. Repeat.

When I was little I wanted to be
Hawaiian, an artist, a dolphin, Scottish warrior princess, or a magician.
The secret, undercover, everyday ones who go unrecognized but do great good with great love.
    Best advice I've received
"You can do it all... but you gotta be like the squirrel... he only takes a few nuts up to his hole in the tree at a time. He can't bring them all at once... so don't see all the nuts in the pile, just look at one, then the next... be like the squirrel, girl!!" - Captain Liz Clark
    When not surfing, I'm
updating the Beyond the Surface website, replying and writing emails, talking, brewing coffee, painting or sketching, with friends and surf club kids.
